This website takes its inspiration from several sources -- the Greek myth of Endymion, the shepherd who was loved by the Goddess of the Moon, Diana or Selene, the New Orleans Mardi Gras Krewe of Endymion who present one of the best parades of the carnival season, and my beloved Amadeo -- the Vampire Armand, who recently reminded me of my passion for this tale.
Here you will find artistic representations of the myth, poetry -- both my own and that of more well-known and celebrated authors, information about the Krewe of Endymion, and tributes to Armand. Quite an interesting and eclectic melange, I suppose, but I hope you will find it entertaining. If you do, perhaps you will leave a little message in the guest book on your way out.
So please, light some candles, put on a Samba CD, sit back, relax....and if you will, incline your head slightly to the right...soon you will feel the sting of my fangs in your throat.
Until then,
I remain yours,
The Vampire Santiago

Front: Sleep & His Half-Brother Death
from ArtMagick
J.A. Blaikie gave a brief critique of this painting in 'The Magazine of Art' (1886):
'The two figures recline side by side on a low couch, beyond which are the columns of a colonnade open to the night and touched with moonlight. The interior is lit by a lamp, whose light streams on the foremost figure, Sleep, whose head hangs in heavy stupor on his breast, and his right hand grasps some poppies. By his side lies Death in dusky shadow, with head thrown back, and the lines of the figure expressive of easeful lassitude. At his feet is an antique lyre, while immediately in the foreground is a low round table… The two figures are both young, and the beauty of youth belongs to one as much as to the other… the strange likeness and unlikeness of the recumbent figures.'
