The Tommyknockers

There's only so many times a week a girl can watch 'The Fellowship of the Ring' and 'The Two Towers' (extended versions, of course.) Granted it is a pretty large number, but the film is so long that squeezing it in even once a day is a feat, especially when one just wants to watch Haldir leading the Fellowship to Lothlórien or the Lórien army to Helm's Deep. I don't get any New Zealand TV channels, and Xena is only on Saturday afternoons, when I'm usually at the mall looking for action figures.
I needed a slice of Craig. I was craving it.
When a former friend mentioned she would be stopping at the video store to pick up a copy of "Black Hawk Down" ( *cough* -- you know why!) on the way to my house this weekend, I asked her to see if she could snag "The Tommyknockers" as well, since I knew Craig had a bit part. And she rented it. Yay!
I remembered reading the Stephen King book eons ago, but nothing about it, and I knew Craig's part was 'Student Bartender' so I wasn't counting on this being the most exciting film fest of my life nor on seeing a whole lot of him. We popped by the liquor store for some 100 Proof SoCo to make it more bearable and my companion had to talk me out of buying a bottle of 'Elijah Craig' whiskey just for the sake of the name (and really, there's a pairing I don't fancy...)
"The Tommyknockers" was also a made for TV movie and starred Traci Lords, among others. We kicked back, all tanked up, ready for a laugh. It was filmed in 1993, but Craig is easy to recognize (especially knowing that he was playing a bartender...) even without the long, blond wig.
I was quite pleasantly surprised. Despite the facts that the budget for the flick was obviously low and that I am not a big fan of alien movies, "The Tommyknockers" was entertaining enough and I stayed awake through the whole thing, all the way until the explosive ending (heh heh.) Craig's part was brief, but he did have a couple of lines, a pretty smile, and got to splash some drinks around. Woo hoo! If you dig him, go ahead and rent it.
